Parents collecting their children from a school in York faced some disruption this afternoon after a car went into a fence and an air ambulance was called.

Humberside Police say a car which had been in a collision came to rest on a fence outside the school on West Green around 2 o'clock this afternoon.

They think a 73-year-old man driving a silver Ford Mondeo had become ill at the wheel.

An air ambulance was called to take the driver to York Hospital for further treatment.

Cemetry Lane and West Green were closed, with the school putting out a statement on its website warning parents. It said no pupils were involved in the accident.
