There are widespread reports that Steve Bruce has resigned as manager of Hull City.

Bruce, 55, led the Tigers to promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in May, but has reportedly quit following a meeting with the club's owners and did not take training on Friday morning.

The former Sunderland, Wigan and Birmingham boss, appointed at the KC Stadium in June 2012, was interviewed for the England job on Monday but the Football Association has this afternoon confirmed Sam Allardyce as Roy Hodgson's successor.

There's some speculation that Bruce could either replace Allardyce at Sunderland - or, according to a tweet from ex-England international Gary Lineker, even be his number two for England.

Speaking last month, Bruce said - despite the issues over transfers and a potential takeover - it would be hard to quit:

> "It's very, very difficult to walk away because you're in the Premier League. Of course you want to pit your wits against these great coaches and great managers... Jose's back, Guardiola's round the corner and of course, little tiny Hull have got to take them on".

And according to the bookies, Roy Keane is the early favourite to take over at the KCOM stadium.
