People living near the water treatment works in Saltend are protesting outside the plant for a second time.

They're calling on Yorkshire Water to put an end to the problem of bad smells coming from the site.

East Riding Council has already served an abatement notice forcing the company to stop the odours.

Bradley Robinson lives nearby and is leading the campaign.

He said:

"I think there was a petition sorted out in 2011. That sort of went away and it's come back again this year, bigger than ever. I think the smells have been worse and that's obviously got a lot more people on board with us."

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said:

"We understand the strength of feeling in the local community regarding this issue and we respect their right to protest peacefully outside the treatment works. We remain committed to resolving this problem and are continuing to take steps to recover the performance of the site in the short term.

"Last month we also announced a full review of the site’s treatment processes and future investment needs to establish what needs to be done to ensure we can adequately cope with peak season flows in the future. We will be aiming to provide an update on our medium and long term plans for the site in the coming weeks."
