People who have pre-paid funeral packages with Legacy funeral directors in Hull have expressed worries over the future of their money.

The financial regulator for the firm, The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) stated that the firm is no longer authorised to provide plans.

This comes after the major police investigation currently ongoing into the company after officers removed 35 bodies from the premises over storage and management concerns.

Councillor Daren Hale, whose west Hull ward is where the funeral home is located, said: “A number of people have contacted us regarding future financial plans and we’ve been trying to get answers.

“The home offered value products and cheaper funerals, as the area is in one of the poorer parts of the city where people would use its services.”

Since the end of December 2020, Legacy has not been registered with the FCA in any way meaning that there is a lack of protection for people who bought plans from the unregulated company.

The bodies that were taken by police are undergoing identification procedures at a mortuary in Hull.
