Parents have been told not to panic after schools across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire received fake bomb threats this morning.

Humberside Police have told schools they don't need to evacuate pupils, but some pupils have been sent home.

Nationally more than 400 schools and colleges received emails saying a device had been planted and would be set off unless cash was sent.

Humberside Police say 19 local schools have reported receiving the email, but haven’t confirmed which ones.

The force says it’s been working with counter terror police and there is NO credible threat.

It’s told schools they don’t need to evacuate, but some did decide to send pupils home.

Det Supt Tony Cockerill said: “We have been liaising with our counter terrorism colleagues across the country and it is not believed that the threats are credible.

“We have spoken to all schools who have contacted us, reassured them that there is no need to evacuate and offered them security advice.”

Following several comments on social media from concerned parents asking for a list of affected schools, the force added:

“Please don't worry - the threat is not credible. If there was anything to worry about we would not have posted this information.

“All the schools who have received the email have been spoken to and security advice to ensure everyone remains safe.

“Whether or not pupils are evacuated or whether parents are informed the school has had the email is up to each individual school."
