A police misconduct hearing will be held next week into the surveillance of the sister of a Hull man who died in custody.

It follows allegations of gross misconduct because of surveillance on Janet Alder - the sister of Christopher - who died in police custody in 1998.

Her - and her legal representative's movements - were monitored for around two hours on a date in July 2000, when the inquest into Christopher's death was taking place.

Humberside Police say they were followed from the Court to the Kingston Theatre Hotel and Lowgate car park, where attempts were made to listen to conversations between them.

They say those conversations are likely to have been private, and subject to legal professional privilege.

The hearing was ordered by the police watchdog in November last year, and will start on Monday.
