A 24-year-old man has been arrested after attempting to flee from police following a dangerous driving incident in Beverley.

At approximately 10:30am, on the morning of Friday (1 August), an off-duty police dog handler spotted a vehicle being driven erratically around the town. The officer quickly called for backup, and the police dog unit, accompanied by Police Dog Arny, was deployed to assist in the pursuit.

The vehicle was eventually stopped outside an address on Wilbert Lane, but the driver attempted to flee on foot, heading towards the town centre.

PD Arny was swiftly deployed and tracked down the suspect, who was allegedly attempting to scale a fence in a bid to escape.

Once detained, the driver failed a roadside drugs test and, upon searching the vehicle, officers found what is suspected to be Class A drugs. The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.

A subsequent search of a property believed to be connected to the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of what is believed to be a knife. As a result, the suspect was further arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

The man has since been released on bail while investigations continue.

Police are urging anyone with further information related to the incident to come forward.
