People Reminded How To Keep Safe This Bonfire Night

Emergency services across the Humber say they best way to keep safe is to attend an organised event.

Attend an organised event and make sure young people are kept out of harms way - that's the message from Humberside Fire and Rescue this Bonfire Night.

They're warning people about the dangers of holding your own bonfires and fireworks displays and say not only can it put your family at risk but can also be illegal.

Steve Duffield is from Humberside Fire and Rescue and says they've also been working hard to make sure people are only buying fireworks from registered sellers this November 5. He told Viking:

"Fireworks will be sold from the right people to the right people and from the right sources and we will work with our colleagues in Trading Standards to make sure that continues to happen this year.

"Parents must make sure that they're accompanying under-18s in making sure that they're safe when using sparklers and things of that nature.

"Ultimately it's about attending an organised event, that's the safest possible way to celebrate Bonfire Night and if you are holding your own event you are only legally allowed to burn things that are capable of growing in your garden, so anything that produces black smoke on a fire is illegal and will be extinguished by us.

"Take some safety precautions and go to an organised event, make sure young people are safe and not putting them in a vulnerable position and creating a risk and hazard and enjoy it safely."
