Pensioner injured after being hit with piece of wood in Grimsby

An elderly man is recovering in after being attacked in Grimsby last night.

The 88 year old was attacked in the Freeman Street area, emergency services were called at around 7.10pm

A Police spokesperson said:

"An elderly man suffered minor injuries following an attempted robbery in the Freeman Street area of Grimsby, last night.

"We were called by ambulance crews at shortly before 7.10pm (Sunday, November 18), following the attack.

"Officers remained in the area last night to provide reassurance and search for the culprit. And today our teams are actively pursuing the suspect.

"The 88-year-old victim had been walking between Wermouth Road and Freeman Street when he was approached by a man who demanded he hand over his wallet, before assaulting him with a piece of wood.

"The offender fled empty handed towards the area of Wellington Street and Railway Street.

"He is described as white, around 5ft 6in tall and slim with dark hair. He was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit.
