The funeral for PC Wylie will be held on Wednesday April 29 at Haltemprice Crematorium in Willerby at 3.45pm.

It will be a full police funeral.

The funeral cortege will commence its journey from Tetney, just outside Grimsby and will pass by Grimsby Police Station at approximately 2.45pm where it will pause for a brief time to allow officers and staff to pay their respects.

The family accept there will be media interest in the funeral and are content for representatives from the media to be present outside the crematorium and also at Grimsby Police Station on Victoria Road, Grimsby.

Members of the media are NOT invited into the crematorium for the service.

Any media intending to cover the funeral are asked to ensure they are respectful of the wishes of the family and make every effort to be as discreet as possible.

A statement from his parents and fiancée said:

“The sudden and tragic death of Russ has left us devastated and bereft.

“The loss we feel for this warm and caring man is immeasurable. He was full of so many hopes and dreams for the future that the thought of life without him is unbearable.

“Since Russ died we have found out so much more about him; how respected he was by many and how much people thought of him.

“From the best wishes passed on by his friends and colleagues to the comments made by members of the public who Russ helped in the everyday course of his work, we have been surprised by the general outpouring of grief and we are extremely proud of him and his achievements.

“He looked after everyone and couldn’t do enough for others, taking time out to help friends and neighbours alike. He made you feel safe and secure and he was considerate, caring and patient.

“We always knew he was a good person, but had never imagined how he impacted on others. We take real comfort from listening to his family, friends and colleagues talk about him and never tire of hearing about him. Somehow that makes the loss even greater.

“We are very grateful to the efforts made by everyone in the immediate aftermath of Russ’s accident and with that in mind we support the fundraising bid for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance that was in attendance on the day and flew Russ to hospital.

“We feel it is appropriate and a very deserving charity and we know that any donations will be much appreciated and will help them to continue to do the fantastic work they do.”
