Many parents across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire say they fear just how much the upcoming summer holidays will se them back.

It's after the cost of living crisis with high levels of inflation hit many families in the pocket.

Recent research from Trustpilot revealed that a fifth of parents fear they'll be 'priced out' of entertaining their children over the summer holidays.

That reflects the experience of many families in this region.

We've been speaking to Emma Wales - a part-time primary school teacher who works with Debutots in Hull.

The cost of living is going up so high

They are offering a free summer holiday camp for eligible children - reducing the pressure on parents.

She told us: "When I was initially researching summer holiday camps I found the cost was really high."

"For those on the lowest income - particularly with rising prices - the cost of living is going up so high, parents can't afford to take time off work."

"They can't afford to lose that income."

It risks some being socially isolated and not having the same opportunities as other children

"You definitely get a sense that money is becoming tighter and becoming more challenging to do those activities with children over the holidays."

"I think even for those parents who normally are able to afford those activities - even they are finding it more difficult."

"From my research a number of the activities you get involved in are 20 pounds plus a day."

"Families just can't afford that and it risks some being socially isolated and not having the same opportunities as other children."
