Northern Lights spotted in Flamborough Head

People in East Yorkshire have been left stunned by the colourful skies. Early hours Friday morning was the perfect occasion for photographers to take pictures of the northern lights.

The northern lights are caused by solar activity when charged particles from the sun collide with molecules in the Earth's upper atmosphere.

Melanie Billam shared some of her husband's photographs of the Aurora on social media which has attracted over 600 likes.

Emma Jade Clarke took to the comments, she said:

" I’ve seen loads of people post pictures of the northern lights seen from Flamborough looks beautiful."

Adam Watkin, said:

"Those are absolutely outstanding photos. Wish I had been awake to see it!"
