Businesses located in North East Lincolnshire are urging the government to provide assistance with their energy costs before the spring budget announcement next week.

To achieve this, the Federation for Small Businesses is collaborating with other groups to propose a "help to green" scheme.

This program would involve providing businesses with a £5,000 voucher that can be utilized to purchase items such as heat pumps and improved insulation to reduce their energy bills.

Paula Gouldthorpe is the manager of the Federation for Small Businesses in North East Lincolnshire, she said:

"Small businesses frequently tell us that they want to contribute to the UK’s green ambitions, but the cost, understanding pay back on investment, in addition to knowing where to best start creates the challenges and hesitations to make their first steps.

"Locally business support grants and schemes through the local authorities and growth hubs have already started to make a huge step to helping businesses start their ‘greening’ journey , improving their energy efficiency and costs whilst contributing to the bigger UK net zero ambitions.

"Through a guaranteed ‘Help to Grow Green’ scheme it would ensure that all small businesses have the opportunity for support, no matter their postcode or sector. As a campaign and centre for information it would help towards reducing the confusion of where to go for help and advice when it comes to the wider net zero agenda for businesses”
