MODAL Training Limited, which is the first company in the UK to offer this kind of training for sea, road, rail and air sectors has been announced today.

The education centre, which is being jointly funded by the Grimsby Institute and the Humber LEP is due to open in September 2016.

The site will have state-of-the-art simulators for training pupils is just one part of the £7 million pound development.

Viking FM spoke to Sam Whitaker, Vice-Principal for strategic projects at the Grimsby Institute and a Board Member of MODAL Training who explained how there are many skilled jobs available nationally.

Mr Whitaker explained how there are 35 thousand jobs that need filling by skilled professionals in the maritime industry alone, and around 30 thousand in rail. It's hoped that MODAL training will help develop skills of local people and refresh a currently aging work force.

Viking FM also spoke to Mike Sellers, the port manager for ABP Ports of Immingham and Grimsby. Mike explained how companies such as ABP would like to employ a local work force, if they have the right skills.

Mr Sellers explains that companies that work in the ports in the UK need skills on all levels and in all departments.

Sam Whitaker believes that by 2020 the Humber region is going to be a very different place to live, work and learn.
