A major new project is launching in Scunthorpe designed to tackle violence and anti social behaviour as well as improving safety in the centre of town at night.

It'll see the council, police and local bars working together to address issues including drink spiking and harassment as well as helping anyone in difficulty.

The Safer Nights charter was officially launched yesterday at the Baths Hall.

It was also a chance for businesses in the night time economy to raise issues.

We got to do more on things like CCTV, lighting, fences and youth engagement

We spoke to Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison who was at the launch.

He told us: "If you have those things available in those venues there is a significant and growing commercial advantage. "

"By saying you are a safe venue, a safe space - you have Ask Angela - all those things are really good initiatives."

"Any initiatives I can bring to the table like CCTV, lighting, fences, youth engagement - we've got to do more of that."

We want people to continue feeling safe and investing in the local economy

"I'm doing a lot of that and I'm encouraging local authorities."

"There's a lot we have to do - there's no one silver bullet."

We also spoke to the leader of North Lincolnshire council Rob Waltham.

He said: "With all the CCTV and everything we have Scunthorpe it is safe to go out in."

"Come here - have a good night - be safe while you're out."

"If something does happen there's the mechanisms to help you."

"It's a major part of our economy - the evidence is that people are safe."

"We want them to continue to keep feeling safe and investing in the local economy."
