New Hull City Head Coach Tim Walter says his style of play will fit perfectly with English football.

He has been speaking at a press conference as Tigers chairman Acun Ilicali says he expects Walter's side to challenge for a Championship play-off place next season.

Former Hamburg boss Walter, 48, was named on Friday as successor to Liam Rosenior, who was surprisingly sacked last month after the Tigers narrowly missed out on a top-six finish.

Ilicali reiterated Walter's brand of high-intensity football made him first choice for the role when he introduced the German to the media for the first time at MKM Stadium on Tuesday.

"I will not promise where we finish, but I promise we will give everything and Tim will give everything too," Ilicali said.

"You cannot predict football, but over 10th every place is successful for us. Success for us is top 10, but our aim is top six. We will aim for that."

Former Stuttgart manager Walter, sacked by Hamburg in February, confirmed first-team coach Andy Dawson will continue in his role and said: "I was made in Germany, but I am made for England.

"Our vision fits perfectly and I am very happy to be here. My philosophy will fit perfect to the style of English football.

"We are on the same wavelength and there was a good feeling with Acun. We can work well together and be successful. It's a perfect fit."

The Tigers finished seventh last season, three points off the play-offs, while Rosenior was nominated for the Championship's manager of the year award.

Ilcali said he will be restricted to spending £14/15million in the transfer market this summer due to profitability and sustainability rules and the club would also look to bring in five players on loan.

Walter added: "We have ambitions and we want new players. It's a challenge, but I'm sure we will find the right players who will fit into my philosophy.

"I'll try to bring my energy to the club, the players and the fans. The expectations are to be offensive, emotional for the fans, that's the main target."
