Primary school children in Scunthorpe are going to be given healthy breakfasts over the next year thanks to new funding.
At least 500,000 children go to school each day too hungry to learn but now £200,000 is being given by a charity to ensure kids get fed.
The money, from the Players of People’s Postcode Lottery to Magic Breakfast, will help provide hungry children in 62 schools in the North of England with healthy breakfasts throughout 2015.
Pupils at Oasis Academy Parkwood in Scunthorpe are among those to benefit. The school’s breakfast club is a vital source of nutritious food for many of the pupils. 43% of pupils at Oasis Academy Parkwood are eligible for Free School Meals and attending the breakfast club helps increase concentration, attainment and attendance, helps with social skills and can play an important part in reducing malnutrition and obesity.
