A new report published today highlights that only 41% of adults are at a healthy weight, yet over half of those in the region would describe their health as good or excellent.

It also revealed that only 4% have asked their GP for help in the last year to manage their weight, alongside that one third of the population want to loose weight.

The report conducted by AVIVA also looked at the lifestyle of people in East Yorkshire, and found that only one in five of adults eat the reccomended 5-a-day, and almost a quarter of adults have five or more shots of cofffee a day.

The level of excersise in the region was also highlighted, with nearly half of adults not knowing how much excersise they should be doing, and some not doing any at all.

Viking FM spoke to Dr Doug Wright about these results...

'People's perception of health of course is whether they are able to do the things they think they should be doing. I think underneath that its slightly more worrying is that they still class themselves as very or excellent in terms of their health.'

'Its possibly one of the simplest and most widely communicated health messages. Equally people checking themselves for the early signs of cancer, what the right amount of excersise they should be doing. Again we see people falling short of some of those very simple messages.'

'The trick to this is just changing your daily routine. Now whether your daily routine is going to focus on your diet or excersie levels, I think it's picking one thing you can make some small changes about, stick with that until it becomes a habit'
