A man who was killed in Grimsby has been named by police as 29 year old Dean Southwick.

Emergency crews were called out at around 2.40am on Friday following reports of a 'disturbance' in the Churchill way area.

An 18-year-old man was found with serious injuries in Eleanor Street.

He's at Hull Royal Infirmary, where his condition is described as "poorly but stable".

Dean's mum Lisa Briggs and her partner Trevor Day, have urged the local community to leave the investigation to the police and not to take matters into their own hands.

In a statement they said:

"We have every confidence in the police and believe that they will bring the person responsible for the death of Dean to justice.

"We know that feelings are running high locally but we don't want retribution. We want the police to be allowed to conduct their inquiries and take the necessary course of action to resolve this matter for us.

"We are devastated by the loss of Dean and want to be free to grieve for him without worrying that others will try to take the law into their own hands."

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in police custody.
