We’re being warned more needs to be done to help homeless people in Hull
It's as the number of people sleeping rough is on the rise
A Hull volunteer who works with homeless people is calling for the local authorities to do more to help rough sleepers in the hot weather.
It's as we could see the hottest day of the year so far in parts of the UK later.
With new figures showing there's been a 7% increase in the number of people sleeping rough in Hull within the last year - volunteer Karina Wilkinson says more needs to be done:
"Once it's chucking it down with rain - once they are wet - they are wet. There's nowhere on the night time to access any change of clothing, no change of sleeping bag even in the heat.
"There's nowhere really for them to go during the day for them to escape it.
"Anything out of hours there's nothing at all.
"You've got the soup kitchens which do a fantastic job - but even they are limited as to what they can do.
"They are outside in all weathers - no sanitation facilities."
The council say they recognise the importance of providing aid during extreme weather and The Changing Futures team works to engage with people, and offer support.
