Millions Of Pounds Secured For Local Projects

Over ten million pounds has been awarded to fund new projects in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

Latest funding from the Government's Local Growth Deal will see East Riding of Yorkshire Council getting £8m towards the cost of improving the A1079.

While a further £10m will be used to fund 10 other schemes on both banks of the Humber.

The projects allocated Local Growth Fund awards are:

A1079 - £8m

This includes dualling a section of the A1079 near Barmby Moor and Wilberfoss. The scheme will increase capacity and improve journey time reliability along this key road link, particularly for drivers travelling to access employment, education and other facilities in York, the East Riding and Hull. Design work on the scheme is currently underway and construction is due to start on site in 2017/18.

Re-designating Hull’s Old Town - £3m

The overall vision is the rebirth of the historic Old Town as a thriving hub of activity with café bars, visitor attractions, restaurants and independent retailers, and for the area to become a strong economic presence to the east of the city centre and to play a strong role at the heart of the City of Culture 2017 celebrations. Investment will be centred on revitalisation of Trinity Indoor Market and the surrounding public spaces, whilst making the most of the Old Town's rich history and architecture.

A18: Strengthening or Replacing the Railway Bridge at Melton Ross - £1.75M

The A18 is a strategic link road between Scunthorpe and the Ports of Immingham and Grimsby and the bridge over the Scunthorpe to Grimsby railway line provides the primary access route into Humberside airport, a vital asset for the region’s economic growth. The bridge is currently in a weakened condition and the investment will return it to being fully functional thereby allowing all vehicles travelling on the A18 to use it instead of HGVs having to divert through the village.

Stallingborough Interchange Junction Improvements - £1M

Investment will improve the junction of the A1173 and Kiln Lane. Stallingborough Interchange has been designated as a strategic employment site and covers 13.6 hectares. Being close to Immingham and A180, it is a strategic site which is expected to be attractive to ports, logistics and manufacturing businesses. The junction improvements will enable the development of Phase 1 of the site and all road users will benefit from better benefit highway infrastructure.

Goole, A161 Bridge Street cycle scheme - £0.16M

A 1 km of-road cycle link, with shared footpath, will be built along the A161 Bridge Street and Lower Bridge Street in Goole .This will provide a safe and continuous cycle route between the residential area of Old Goole and key employment, education, healthcare, leisure and retail facilities in Goole town centre. The new connection will encourage more local residents to make short local trips on foot or by bike, supporting the high percentage of Old Goole residents without access to a car. At the same time, the cycle link will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and improving road safety by segregating cyclists and motor vehicles.

Scunthorpe, Westcliff Regeneration Enterprise Hub - £0.55M

The investment will be used towards transforming the Westcliff area to increase the economic opportunities for people living and working within the Westcliff community. The funding will contribute towards opening an Enterprise Hub which will comprise: · Training rooms, IT suite, to enable the delivery of job clubs, training, support and personal development · Managed space for business start ups including fully equipped managed office space, hot-desking, meeting rooms, training facilities and administrative service for located businesses to utilise. · Training kitchen with 4 work stations · Community cafe and library provision · Flexible youth service space 250sqm · Pre-school unit 80sqm · Office space

Hull: Strengthening Park Street Bridge on Anlaby Road (A1105) - £0.76M

This section of Anlaby Road is part of the Inner City Strategic Diversion Route which aims to improve the traffic flow and reduce congestion on the A1105. Funding will be used to widen the carriage way outside Hull Royal Infirmary and strengthen the existing Park Street Bridge to remove an existing 7.5 ton weight restriction. The work will improve access from the west to the City Centre Strategic Development Sites and enable an alternative route for buses and coaches to access the Paragon Interchange taking traffic off the A63.

Central Cleethorpes Regeneration Programme - £1M

Cleethorpes Town Centre is at the heart of North East Lincolnshire’s visitor economy. This funding will be used to accelerate development of projects to encourage urban living and be complementary to investment proposals by the Heritage Lottery Fund and North East Lincolnshire Council help restore and re-use of historic buildings and improve the town’s physical environment, making it more attractive to residents, visitors and investors.

Hessle: ERGO Centre at Bridgehead Business Park - £1M

The ERGO centre is an integral part of the wider Bridgehead development site which has the potential to support up to 3000 jobs over its lifetime. The funding will be used to provide specialist managed workspace for business and professional services which support the development of environmental technologies sector, such as renewable energy and low carbon industries, on both banks of the Humber.

Humber-wide: The Humber Skills Capital Maintenance Programme £0.39

Funding will contribute to the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s Capital Skills programme and specifically, to help maintain and enhance current building stock which delivers the diverse range of post 16 skills activity in the Humber area. The scheme is designed to unlock projects that have the potential to help deliver the skills, qualifications and training which meets the needs of employers, inward investors and local people. Funding is additional to the training provider’s own investment and they will be invited to bid into the central funding resource for money to allow essential works to progress.
