East Riding Council's offered to pay for and install a memorial bench in Kirk Ella for Jessica Lawson.

The local authority's given the go-ahead for a red and black bench to be built near St Andrews Community Primary School - despite Kirk Ella Parish Council previously rejecting the plans.

12-year-old Jessica Lawson died on a school trip to France back in July 2015.

East Riding Council say the bench was agreed following overwhelming support for such a memorial for Jessica.

Jessica's family has accepeted the offer.

Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Stephen Parnaby, said:

“The memorial bench is important to Mr and Mrs Lawson, Jessica’s sister, Polly, and all who knew Jessica. We will therefore pay for the creation of a red and black bench, as approved by the family, as a lasting tribute to Jessica.”
