One of the five people injured in a helicopter crash at Breighton Airfield near Selby has died, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has today confirmed.

The former military aircraft was on a visit to the airfield and was landing when it crashed on Sunday 17 July.

The five men onboard suffered head, back, chest and leg injuries and were taken to hospital.

Following the accident, an investigation was launched by the AAIB to establish how the crash happened. But they say this has now become a "field investigation" following the death of one of the passengers.

Last week, the airfield's operators the Real Aeroplane Company revealed in a statement how the five injured men were "making good progress".

A AAIB spokesperson told Viking:

“We have appointed a team of inspectors to investigate the helicopter accident that happened in Breighton on 17 July.

"Our investigation became a ‘field investigation’ following news that one of the persons on board passed away after the accident."
