A 49 year old man's dead after a serious collision on the M62 last night.

It's believed he was involved in a collision with an HGV and struck by a third vehicle when he got out of his car.

The man was reported dead at the scene.

The motorway was closed for several hours after the accident which happened around 6.15pm - and didn't reopen until the early hours of Wednesday.

Humberside Police say: "We are appealing for witnesses to the collision itself and for anyone who saw the white Ford Kuga driving in the Selby / Howden area prior to 6.15pm. Anyone who can help with our investigations please call us.

"We would like to thank those who were caught up in the subsequent travel delays on the M62 yesterday evening, their patience and understanding is appreciated."
