M62 Ouse Bridge "on track" to complete works this summer
It's been almost two and a half years since road works began
More overnight closures have begun on the M62 Ouse Bridge for repair works.
Last night, and tonight, the M62 eastbound will be closed between junctions 36, Goole, and 37, Howden, from 8pm to 6am as work on the central reservation and lane three in both directions begins.
National Highways Project Manager John Stebbing said they were on track to replace the joints of the Ouse Bridge by late summer.
Tonight’s closure is the first of four this month for the works which mark the next phase of repairs to the bridge.
Tonight (23/05) will see a westbound closures with eastbound closures taking place on Tuesday, May 28 and another westbound closure on Wednesday, May 30.
Traffic will run in two narrow lanes outside of the closures occupying the hard shoulder and part of lane one.
The phase of works is set to run until late July after which traffic will move back to contraflow on the eastbound carriageway.
Vehicles will join the M62 westbound from the junction 37 entry slip onto a single lane westbound.
National Highways’ Mr Stebbing said drivers should allow more time when travelling at night and following signed diversion routes and not rely on satnavs.
The project manager said: “We’re still on track to replace the joints on Ouse Bridge in late summer this year.
“We will then lift the permanent 24-hour traffic management and the current speed limits.
“We expect to continue to carry out other works such as drainage and the closing of central reserve crossovers for a further two months, but these will be delivered using overnight or low-impact traffic management measures.
“We are working to complete this work as soon as we can. This has been a very complex scheme.”
