Lord Prescott Returns to Front-Line Politics
The former Hull East MP has been appointed as Ed Miliband's special advisor on climate change.
Former Hull East MP John Prescott is back in front-line politics.
The ex deputy prime minister has been appointed as Labour leader Ed Miliband's special advisor on climate change.
It's being seen as a move to counter the threat from Ukip, who've been targeting traditional Labour areas in northern England.
John Prescott represented Hull East as Labour MP from 1970 to 2010 and was appointed Deputy Prime Minister after the party's victory in the 1997 election. He resigned as DPM at the same time Tony Blair resigned as Prime Minister.
He then retired as the MP for Hull at the 2010 election but later stood as the Labour candidate in the election to be the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, losing out to Matthew Grove.
