Lincolnshire Mum raises funds for Air Ambulance after dramatic home birth
Abigail Bray is trekking 51km to thank the air ambulance crew who saved her
A Lincolnshire mum is taking on 51 kilometre Lake District trek on Saturday to raise money for the crew who came to her rescue after the birth of her son.
Abigail Bray, 35, went into sudden labour at home in February. Baby Noah arrived before she could reach hospital. Abigail suffered heavy bleeding and needed urgent treatment from the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance team.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all. I had been booked in for an induction, so it came as a complete surprise. My contractions were full-on from the start," she said.
“When my waters broke, it all happened so quickly. By the time we thought about leaving for the hospital, Noah was already on his way.”
Paramedics were first on scene, before the Air Ambulance crew stepped in to control the bleeding and get Abigail safely to hospital.
“I’m just so thankful for the crew’s expertise, reassurance and support. I’ll never forget what they did for me.”
Now, Abigail is saying thank you by walking the 51.4km Ullswater Way with colleagues from Barbon Insurance Group. The challenge, expected to take up to 14 hours, has already raised nearly £7,000 for the life-saving charity.
“I just keep telling myself it’s one day. It’s one day out of the whole of my life - and it’s all for such an incredible cause.”
The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance receives no direct Government funding, relying entirely on donations. Each mission costs an average of £4,000.
