Kids As Young As 6 Worried About Weight
New research shows children as you as 6 are watching what they eat.
Children as young as SIX in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are unhappy with their bodies.
That's according to new research from Yorkshire charity, Leeds Beckett.
They looked at 8 primary schools and found overweight children worried more than those of normal weight - which could lead to them restricting their diet while they're still developing
And that girls worry about being thin more than boys.
Mum Lisa Clark told Viking her slim and healthy six-year-old thinks she's fat, because of a comment from a school nurse:
“They told her that she was overweight which knocked her confidence. She feels like she’s fat, she won’t eat sugary stuff, she won’t eat sweets because she reckons like she’s overweight. I was livid, really really angry. Because I know she’s not overweight!”
“She won’t wear skinny jeans, she wants to wear baggy clothes because then she feels like she can’t see it. Which is horrible, she’s got loads of beautiful clothes upstairs. The Healthcare visitor says she’s the perfect weight now. I do try and explain it to her, but I don’t think she grabs the idea that she’s not overweight.”
“I feel annoyed, because when I was a kid, I ate loads. If she eats at least half of her dinner, I’ll be more than happy but sometimes she won’t even eat it. I know she’s not overweight. She might have been when she was a baby but she isn’t know, she’s far from it.”
