Humberside Police have told us they're determined to tackle knife crime after six families lost loved ones to violence in their region over the past 18 months.

Victims' families, first responders, and detectives are sharing their stories to highlight the impact it has on those involved.

Detective Superintendent Al Curtis is leading the campaign and we've been speaking to him.

He said: "We had a homicide investigation recently - a manslaughter investigation - where the children lost both parents - mother was convicted of the murder of father."

"The children were left with no parent - one deceased and one in prison."

"There's no winners in this whatsover."

We've had 6 people in 18 months die as a result of knife crime - in our mind that's 6 people too many.

"We see it as an opportunity to really raise awareness - to reduce the number of people who are carrying knives on the streets."

"Reduce the number of victims of a result of knife crime - to properly educate people about the dangers of knife crime."

"We're no different from other areas of the country but it's an issue that needs to be addressed but one we feel we can get on the front foot to challenge and address."

"We've had 6 people in 18 months die as a result of knife crime - in our mind that's 6 people too many."

“Knife crime can impact people from any walk of life, that is why we continue to support the national knife surrender Operation Sceptre which launches in November.

One knife impacts more than one life

“It is really important to educate our communities that by possessing some types of knives, even just at home, you could be committing a criminal offence."

"It is also crucial to mention the fact that even if you are not the one carrying a knife, but you were there when a knife was wielded, you too could suffer the criminal consequences.

“By taking part in operations like this, not only can we educate people, but we can remove unwanted knives, and other bladed weapons, from our communities.

“Whether you find yourself in a confrontational situation at home, or are thinking about carrying a knife for your protection, ask yourself, what is the point?"

"One knife impacts more than one life.”
