Humberside Police hail Operation Impact a success
51 arrests have been made since the launch of the crackdown on drug dealing and organised crime across Humberside.
Humberside Police are hailing Operation Impact – ‘a focus on tackling drug dealing and organised crime across the Humberside area’ - a success.
Operation Impact launched on Monday February 1 and resulted in 48 warrants and arrest related searches over the 2 week period. From theses 51 people were arrested, a large quantity of drugs were removed from the streets, money and property linked to criminality were seized and officers recovered a number of weapons.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Kirby said: “Operation impact has undoubtedly disrupted those involved in organised crime and associated drug dealing. Not only has the force recovered drugs, but weapons and firearms have been taken off the streets making our communities safer.
“Drug dealers are a magnate for associated crime and anti-social behaviour and they have a big impact on the local neighbourhoods. One of the main aims of the operation was to show residents we are tackling these issues and the feedback from the community was excellent, with many people coming up to officers thanking them for taking positive action. The operation has also involved a large number of partners which has enabled us to support anyone wanting help to tackle their drug misuse and dealing with other wider community issues.
“A large number of people will be charged on the back of the arrests during the operation and it will have longer effect on those dealt with by the courts than just a custodial sentence, as we will be pursuing inquiries under the Proceeds of Crime Act. This will ensure those people living a lavish lifestyle funded by crime will have their assets seized, in a clear statement that crime does not pay.
The overview of Operation Impact is: • 48 warrants and/or arrest related searches were completed over the 2 week period. • 51 persons were arrested for offences such as possession of controlled drugs, possession with intent to supply controlled drugs, burglary, possession of firearms and money laundering. Four other people received warnings or summonses • Heroin, cocaine, cannabis and amphetamine were recovered, along with ancillary and other drugs paraphernalia such as bags and scales. • £5000 cash recovered. Money laundering investigations focusing on 2 houses and a significant amount of expensive commodities (hot tubs/gyms), one including clothing to the approximate value of £30K. • Two viable firearms recovered • Two machetes and a samurai sword recovered • A number of referrals/interactions were made to drugs and family support services. • We have worked with the following agencies : Environment Agency, Immigration, RSPCA, Council, local drug support services, trading Standards, Banks , HMIC,Courts,CPS • Hundreds of leaflets were given out to nearby properties to the addresses targeted through Misuse of drugs Act warrants
DCI Kirby added: “Now the operation has concluded I am keen to reassure residents across the Humberside area that we will continue to tackle organised crime groups involved in drug dealing and violence. However, to do so effectively we need local people to tell us about their local drug dealers as we can only take action if we are made aware.
