Humberside Fire and Rescue are urging everyone to fit a detector to detect the poisonous gas.
October sees the start of land lords legally having to put carbon monoxide detectors into their properties, but Humberside Fire and Rescue service are wanting to educate people that it's not just rented buildings that may have this 'silent killer'.
Dominic Purchon, who is a watch manager at Humberside Fire and Rescue is urging everyone to take responsibility and get detectors fitted in their own homes.
He explains that carbon monoxide is a silent killer and those who may have carbon monoxide poisoning will have similar symptoms to the flu. A tell-tale sign of this for residents is that their symptoms disappear when they are out of their homes.
Dominic is urging people to get gas appliances tested; making sure they are fitted correctly and also ensuring that fire places chimneys are kept clean and clear to prevent this.
Government statistics reveal that annually up to 26 people die from carbon monoxide, and over 600 are injured.
