Hull woman jailed for 20 months after stealing around £20,000 from a charity

A Hull woman's been jailed for 20 months after stealing around £20,000 from a charity she set up and ran.
36 year old Kayleigh Towler of Albert Avenue, Hull pleaded guilty to fraud and appeared at Hull Crown court for sentencing today. (Friday 11 March)
The court heard Towler defrauded hundreds of people.
As well as defrauding The Rich Foundation, a charity that she set up and ran, Towler launched a charity fund in support of a family who had sadly lost their child and kept the money for herself.
Towler is reported to have spent it on herself including, hotels, travel, eating out and living beyond her means.
Detective Inspector Ben Robinson leading the investigation said:
“I’m pleased that this case has come to court today. Those monies should have been used to help and support a family grieving for the loss of their little boy.
“I hope that today’s outcome provides the family and those members of the public who donated with some comfort in knowing that Towler is now being punished for her selfish and deceitful actions.
“Tackling online crime, be it theft fraud or any other offending, and protecting people in our society is a key priority for us.
“Unfortunately, fraudsters do take advantage of the kindness and generosity of members of the public when giving to charitable causes and those who are in need.
