A window cleaner from Hull is the saviour of what's believed to be an original Banksy Artwork, which was vandalised over the weekend

The mural appeared on Scott Street bridge on Friday, but by Sunday morning, residents were furious to find it had been sprayed over.

Window cleaner Jason Fanthorpe however, was not letting the vandals get away with it - and went out late last night to see if he could help;

The official Banksy Instagram account's posted a photo of the Scott Street Bridge, which would appear to suggest that he IS behind the picture that appeared this week of the young boy wearing a colander as a helmet, carrying a toy sword with a pencil tied to the end.

It's accompanied by the slogan "Draw the raised bridge" in reference to the roadway across the River Hull being left in the raised position since the bridge was disused in 1994 when it was decided it was too weak to carry traffic and too expensive to repair

Hull City Council have released a statement about the painting:

"To prevent further damage staff will be on the site of the Scott Street bridge this morning applying a protective layer to the Banksy artwork. This temporary measure will help to ensure that the public can continue to enjoy the work and prevent, where possible, further damage."
