A teenager has died and another is seriously ill in hospital after suspected drug use last night in Hull.

Hull City Council and Humberside Police are working together to establish whether there is any danger to the public and will be speaking directly to those who could potentially be at risk.

Vicky Harris, Assistant City Manager for Public Health Commissioning, said:

“We are very sorry to hear of the death of this young person and the serious condition of a second. At this time, it is not known what substance they may have taken.

“Neither of the two young people affected were known to our substance misuse support services, however we advise anyone who is using drugs or has concerns about another’s drug use to contact the Renew treatment services on: 0800 1615 700 for advice and support.

“Anyone who chooses to use drugs needs to be aware that there is no way to be certain what you are taking. The substance you think you have bought may be something else entirely. The drug quoted in this case is not known to services locally; forensic investigations to determine this are ongoing.

“If you are going to use drugs please ensure you do not use alone, you use within a safe environment and think carefully about the unknown impact of mixing drugs and alcohol.”

A Humberside Police spokesman added:

“Police were called by the Ambulance Service at 9.22pm last night (SUNDAY 3 APRIL) reporting the sudden death of an 19-year-old man and a second 19-year-old man in a serious condition at an address on Park Grove, Hull.

“It is believed the men had both taken drugs prior to becoming ill. Police are working with Public Health to establish any danger to the wider public. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
