Hull Refugee Calls For More Support For Those Fleeing
Alan Ahmad moved to Hull from Kurdistan 15 years ago.
A refugee who came from Kurdistan to Hull 15 years ago is appealing for understanding and support for people caught up in the current migrant crisis across Europe
Alan Azad Ahmad arrived in the UK with his dad and his younger brother to set up home in Hull.
Later this month he'll go to Calais to help other refugees who are living homeless in camps there.
It's as plans for the UK to re-home 20,000 Syrian refugees over the next five years are being discussed by a newly-formed committee today.
The home secretary's chairing a meeting between ministers and local government leaders about where they'll be resettled.
Alan says the pictures of recent weeks have brought back a lot of memories about his own journey to safety and says he can understand why the current refugees are fleeing.
