Hull MP’s urge government to bring a dental school to the city
It's after children are missing out on education because of tooth decay
Hull MP’s are urging the government to bring a dental school to the city.
It’s after they’re receiving complaints from headteachers about children being off school with teeth trouble because they cant see a dentist.
This week we’ve been revealing ‘The root of our dental crisis.’
Hull North MP Diana Johnson is in talks with the shadow health secretary making the case to get more dentists trained up locally.
Diana said:
“I’ve had headteachers complaining to me about the fact their children cannot go to see a dentist and they’re out of school. That’s now affecting children’s education.”
The integrated health care board are supporting Hull MP’s on their call for a dental school in the city. Diana added:
“They were keen to hear our idea and will support it. We know there’s a great deal of support locally among dentists.”
Hull West and Hessle MP Emma hardy says it's crucial something is done about the problem, she said:
“If children are having their teeth out from a young age, it can impact their development within schools and their attainment. All these things have an impact which is why it’s just so crucially important we get more dentists trained up.”
MP Karl Turner, Emma Hardy and Diana Johnson are in talks with the shadow health secretary Wes Streeting making the case to get more dentists trained up locally.
