Hull man who suffered life-changing brain injury leads campaign for more support

With figures showing more than 3,000 people have been treated for serious brain injuries in East Yorkshire in two years - a Hull man who almost died is leading a campaign for greater community support.

Paul Spence suffered a life-changing brain haemorrhage after being punched in an unprovoked attack.

Recently, Paul opened Hull's first community-based centre but is now leading a campaign for more support to be available after being contacted from victims from across the country.

Latest figures from Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust show that in 2013, almost 1,500 people were treated for acute or traumatic brain injuries. In 2014, that figure was just over 1,500 and up to July 2015 - over 600 people experienced a brain injury in which they required hospital treatment.
