A 20-year-old man from Hull has been jailed for more than two years after throwing a disabled wheelchair user onto the floor.

Karl Dean was on his way home from the pub with his friends in August last year when he was attacked by Alex Procter.

Procter left Dean injured on the floor and with a massive cut on his head. The 47-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, also experienced dizziness and headaches after the attack.

The attack on Dean also damaged the equipment he uses to speak- and he had to raise more than £5,000 to replace it.

Alex Procter admitted to attacking Karl Dean at Hull Magistrate's Court.

In the days following the assault, Procter was arrested by police and pleaded guilty to the attack in court.

Today, he's been sentenced to 27 months behind bars. He's also received a further six moths in prison for other crimes.

Detective Sergeant Donna Wagner, whose team led the investigation, said: "Firstly, I would like to praise Karl Dean for his bravery and positive attitude throughout and following this attack. I can only imagine how distressing this experience must have been.

"Hopefully now this has concluded and Mr Procter is behind bars, it will bring Mr Dean some closure, however we will continue to do whatever we can to support Mr Dean, as I know the local community will too."
