Hull College Teen Wins Award at Silverstone
21 year-old Elizabeth Hodgson has won body repair student of the year at an awards ceremony at the race course.
Elizabeth was nominated by her tutor for her work, being described as an outstanding achiever. She was picked out from over 150,000 other learners from across the motor industry to win the award.
For her course Elizabeth explains that she renovated and rebuilt her own classic mini over a ten month period, whilst traveling 120 miles a day to and from college.
Elizabeth spoke to Viking FM, explaining how she didn't expect to win the award ....
'I was very proud to win the award. I wasn't quite expecting it. But with all my hard work that I've put into my course I was happy to have a good outcome at the end of it.'
'The industry does tend to be male dominated. I never experienced that problem at college, where everyone around me was male students, but I just blended in as best I could. I feel it’s something which needs to be accepted more.'
'I'm hoping it will build my CV up, and put me forward to get a job within the industry. I would love to get into a garage and be fixing cars. Even to go into the renovation side, into classic car renovation would be an extra bonus for me'.
