It's been revealed the hotly-anticipated clash between Hull boxing stars Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle - will be an eliminator for the WBC World Lightweight title.

The Battle of the Humber bout has now been formally announced by Matchroom Sport and will take place on 1 August at Hull KR's home ground.

The Hull pair will come face-to-face at a public press conference at the City Hall in Hull tonight. Speaking exclusively to Viking FM, Luke said it's set to be an exciting show:

"It's been in the pipeline now for just over a year, it was actually Tommy who first called me out to fight and it went from there and then Eddie Hearn seeing how popular we both are in Hull and how much of a great show this potentially can be and now it's here, it's happening and it's going to be a great night."

Luke told us all alliances will go out of the window come fight night:

"I'm in the gym, focusing on myself and getting myself in the best condition and you'll all see that come 1 August. At the end of the day we are both in this, we are both in boxing to fight and to make great shows to entertain the people. It's a collision course and he's just in my way to where I want to be."

He says despite both getting great support from people in Hull - he knows it's a show that'll split the city:

"There's lots of supporters out there that just want us both to win and may the best man win, that's what I say. This is a business, it's a sport and I take nothing personally. It doesn't matter who is cheering for who as long as everybody enjoys themselves and they have a good night and I come away with the victory."

Promoter, Eddie Hearn, told Viking FM:

“The stage is set for the one of the biggest sporting events the city of Hull will ever see. Two world-ranked lightweight contenders will battle it out in an official eliminator for the WBC World title – it's East versus West, a city divided with everything on the line. "Fans can expect a huge card with the rematch set for Brian Rose to exact revenge over Carson Jones, two-weight World champion Ricky Burns and undefeated Super Featherweight champ Martin Ward defending his title. It's going to be an epic night for the city.”
