An investigation is underway into a blaze that destroyed Howden's ciricket pavilion. You can see a video of the fire here: Humberside Fire and Rescue are now working with the police to find out what caused it but say it is thought to have been started deliberately Fire Crews were called to the scene just before 7 last night - and half the town turned out to watch the well used iconic building burn. The Pavilion has been completely destroyed and officers investigating the circumstances of the fire are asking for local residents to help catch those responsible.

A Humberside Police spokesperson told Viking FM:

"Police Crime Scene Investigators and Fire Investigation Officers from Humber Fire and Rescue are working together to establish circumstances of the fire. Two boys were thought to be at the scene prior to the fire starting and police are appealing for them to come forward to help with their enquiries."

Chief Inspector Kirsty Tock said:

  • “Although thankfully no one was injured in the incident this is a well-used facility and a valued historic building. Its destruction is a significant loss to the community.*

“Local neighbourhood police officers are patrolling in Howden. If anyone has information that would help to find those who caused this fire I would encourage them to come forward, either by speaking to an officer on patrol or contacting us by phone.”
