Householders forced to spend night in shelters after police find potentially hazardous material in flat
People in Selby have spent the night in shelters after the evacuation of their homes.
Residents were asked to leave properties on Cockret Road in the town after the discovery of potenitally hazardous material at a flat in Cockret Court yesterday.
That was found after a 60 year old man was arrested on suspicion of racial/religious aggravated harassment and criminal damage.
Emergency services put in place a precautionary 100 metre cordon meaning some people were out of their homes overnight.
The man who was arrested on Friday afternoon remains in police custody.
