Melanie Onn thinks it could help tackle rising levels of sexual offences in the Humberside region.

The MP for Grimsby is calling for sexist behaviour like wolf-whistling and catcalling to be made a hate crime.

Melanie Onn thinks treating misogyny as a specific offence could help tackle rising levels of sexual offences.

In North East Lincolnshire, the number of incidents reported to Humberside Police have almost trebled in the past nine years.

Ms Onn is now urging ministers to turn a Nottinghamshire Police pilot which treated misogyny as a specific hate crime into a nationwide scheme.

She will debate the issue in Parliament this morning.
