The Government has confirmed it is reviewing the funeral sector and is looking at options for greater regulation.

The update follows one family from Hull's meeting with ministers yesterday, urging the government to introduce regulation of the industry.

Tristan Essex's grandmother was one of the 35 bodies recovered from the Hessle Road branch of Legacy Independent Funeral Homes earlier this year.

A Government spokesperson said: "In times of great personal loss, every family rightly expects their loved ones to be treated with dignity and respect.

“We are currently reviewing the funeral sector to ensure the highest standards are always met, including looking at options for regulation, and will set out next steps in due course.”

A police investigation into Legacy Independent Funeral Directors is continuing.

A man arrested in March and a woman arrested in July, remain on conditional police bail.
