Google Conference Comes To Hull
Digital experts from around the world are attending the event.
Digital experts from around the world will descend on Hull today.
It's as Google holds its annual digital conference in the city.
The Digital Utopias event, which is being held at Hull Truck Theatre and has been organised by Arts Council England, will discuss the growing digital arts industry.
Over 350 delegates from as far afield as the USA are due to attend the conference.
It's hoped it'll also give Hull the chance to tell the world about its growing digital economy.
Martin Green, Chief Executive of of Hull's 2017 Culture Company, told Viking FM:
“This event is a real coup for the city. It is the first major conference to come to Hull as a direct result of our UK City of Culture status and will provide a unique insight into the exciting tools, practice and collaborations that are now emerging as the arts and digital worlds collide.
“It is also an opportunity for us to tell the world about our city’s growing digital economy. With new developments such as the C4Di digital hub in the Fruit Market, the highly successful Platform Expos events and KC’s investment in super-fast connectivity, Hull is well on the way to realising its potential as a location of choice for digital and creative businesses.
“Hosting the UK City of Culture in 2017 will undoubtedly act as a catalyst as we bring our digital and creative talent together to contribute to our programme and support the marketing of the year.
“I am sure that Digital Utopias will inspire us and that the delegates attending will also see the opportunities we now have here in Hull.”
Hull City councillor Steven Bayes said:
“The development of the digital economy in Hull is rapidly increasing and this event marks a milestone as part of our wider plan to establish the city as a growing hub in digital technologies in the build up to the UK City of Culture 2017.”
