Future Of Airco Arena To Be Decided
It's after Hull City agreed to meet those who are being forced out of the venue as they look to build a new indoor pitch at the arena.
Campaigners trying to stop several Hull sports teams being evicted from the Airco Arena say they're hopeful an agreement can be made with Hull City.
They've now met with the Premier League club to discuss their plans for a new indoor pitch there - meaning community sports teams that currently use it will have to leave.
They've been given a month's notice to vacate by Hull City who want to use the arena to help improve their academy facilities.
The future of the community teams is now expected to be decided later this week after the club agreed to another meeting to discuss the issue.
Jamie Potter is from Hull's Angels Roller Derby team - one of those affected - and told Viking FM:
"We've been in touch with some of the venues that Assam Allam and the club have suggested we approach for alternatives but we've actually been turned down from them because of concerns we will damage their floor so we are running out of options right now.
"We have such specific requirements, whether it's the space for the roller skating or the height for the trampolining, that it's not just a case of jumpers for goalposts and we can't just pop down to the local park and have a kick about. For many of us, the Airco Arena is the only option.
"The support has been overwhelming, people who use the arena but we've never seen before have all come together to rally around this cause. We want to make the point that we actually support the club's ambitions for their academy and we're not actually against them developing it but just in the way that they're doing it as it means we are going to be homeless."
