Former Hull soldier appeals for military medals to be returned
23-year-old Arron Gorbutt's Afghanistan medal and veteran bade were stolen from his home on Monday.
A former soldier from Hull says he feels "hurt" and "let down" after his military medals were stolen in a burglary at his home earlier this week.
23-year-old Arron Gorbutt returned to his flat in Lock Keepers Court on Victoria Dock on Monday afternoon to find his Afghanistan medals and veteran badge had been taken.
Arron is now appealing for their return.
He told Viking:
"My Afghanistan medal was given to me in 2012 after touring Afghanistan and it's all engraved with my regimental number and has my name on it. To have it gone missing it takes away pride of what I did out there and the sooner I can have it returned to where it belongs, the better.
"I'm not bothered about the other items that were taken, I just want the medals back. They are the most precious thing to myself, I just want whoever is responsible to do the right thing and hand it in and get them back to their rightful owner.
"I couldn't believe someone would take something like that. My Playstation, tablet and laptop were also taken but they can be replaced unlike my medals. When you have stood there and been presented with them by a high government official, it's really annoying as you can't get those moments back.
"I don't think soldiers get enough credit and then when this happens, it is disgusting. I don't care about getting anything else back, I just want these returned. I don't even want to know whose done it I just want them randomly handed in."
Humberside Police are investigating the incident.
A spokesperson told us:
"A top floor flat was burgled yesterday on Lock Keepers Court on Victoria Dock, Hull, taking military medals, the tenant had earnt whilst serving in Afghanistan earlier this year.
"Between 12.30pm and 7pm yesterday (Monday 20th June, 2016) a top floor flat was entered via a communal door and force used to the front door in order to gain access.
"Once inside money, a play station with games and military medals were taken."
