Five months of roadworks on M180
The work will begin next week.
Five months of vital roadworks along the M180 will begin next week to repair its damaged surface.
Full road closures will take place at the start and end of the ÂŁ5.2million scheme.
A contra flow system with narrower lanes and 50mph speed limit will be in place the rest of the time.
Highways England says the urgent work is needed due to water damage which has caused a number of unplanned roadworks.
The work will take place between junction one (Bawtry) and three (Scunthorpe) of the M180.
The hard shoulder and first lane of the eastbound carriageway will be resurfaced, although all lanes will be narrowed due to the works.
Esref Ulas, National Highways Project Manager, said: “Up to 16,000 vehicles use this section of the eastbound M180 every day. It was built around 40 years ago and has served our customers well but recently there have been issues with water getting through carriageway joints and under the concrete.
“As vehicles drive along the road, the concrete pushes the water back up through the joints causing the surface to deteriorate.
“We’ve had to carry out a number of unplanned roadworks to keep the carriageway open which we know has been frustrating for road users.
“This work will stabilise the carriageway, helping to keep the M180 running smoothly.”
Roadworks will begin on Monday, September 6 and are set to conclude by February next year.
CCTV will be in place and free recovery will be available in the event of any breakdowns.
Eastbound traffic will leave the motorway at junction 1, follow the A18 and rejoin at junction three near the M181.
Westbound traffic will follow the opposite route.
Traffic will be unable to join the motorway at junction two while the diversion is in place.
