Fears children in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire at greater risk of county lines this summer
A local campaigner is calling for more provision to be put in place
There are worries that children in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire will be at more risk of being involved in county lines this summer.
As the six-week school holidays are underway, a local campaigner is calling for more provision to be put in place.
Christina Gabbitas has worked with Humberside Police delivering important messages to young people.
Christina said:
"The six week are holidays a haven for the criminals because children are out on the streets wondering about They're easy prey and I think more measures need to be put into place in the such long summer holidays.
"I think those who have free school meals should be given free places to go to holiday clubs in schools for those who can afford to pay ,and struggle because parents do struggle in the holidays.
"The parents who could afford to pay could help fund that provision and more provisions need to be put into place for children and young people to go. It's very, very sad. I hear too many horrific stories, and this is why I'm passionate about raising the awareness of it. They're hugely at risk, and it's a real worry for parents and all in our communities.
"I think engaging with children and people with sessions in the holidays is a positive measure, and I think more of that needs to be done."
