The first ever winter festival is coming to Bridlington Old Town later this year.

It will take place from November to December with a big street event to mark the first Sunday of advent.

It is being organised by the newly-created association called 'Regeneration of Bridlington Old Town.'

Martyn Coltman is from there and said:

"We did feel that it was time for the public to be able to enjoy something in the winter months. We've had obviously two years of Covid gloom and no winter festivals really. We did feel that it was OK now to proceed, as the world gets back to some kind of normality, with a socially distanced winter festival.

"We're not aware of this happening anywhere locally which is why we wanted to do something differently. So we're starting it off with a big street festival on the 28th of November. There'll be a lantern parade, there'll be a switch on of the tree lights and new Christmas lights in the Old Town.

"We want to create something called a 'Merchant's Market' where it'll just be Bridlington traders given the opportunity to have a stall to promote their business post-Covid, to try and get more business and obviously to bring people up to the Old Town on a regular basis. We'll have late night shopping events on Thursdays and we'll have another big festival day to end it all."
